ABOUT BLUE LOTUS

What is Blue Lotus?

Blue Lotus (Nymphaea nouchali and Nymphaea caerulea) is a water lily treasured across ancient cultures — most famously in Egypt, where it was associated with meditation, relaxation, and higher states of consciousness. It contains natural alkaloids, nuciferine and aporphine, which many people find gently calming, mood-lifting, and dream-enhancing.

What's the difference between your Asian and True Egyptian Blue Lotus?

They're closely related but botanically distinct. Nymphaea nouchali (Asian Blue Lotus) is widely available and shares many of the same properties. Nymphaea caerulea (True Egyptian Blue Lotus) is the rarer, sacred variety of Ancient Egypt — most sellers labelling their product "Egyptian Blue Lotus" are actually selling the Asian variety. We sell both, clearly and transparently labelled, so you always know exactly what you're getting.

Is Blue Lotus legal in the UK?

Yes, Blue Lotus is legal to buy, sell, and possess in the UK. As with any botanical, we'd always recommend checking your own local regulations if you're having it shipped elsewhere.

What does Blue Lotus feel like / what are the effects?

Most people describe a gentle, calming euphoria — a soft mood lift paired with relaxation. It's also popular as a sleep aid and for supporting vivid or lucid dreaming. Effects are subtle rather than intense, and vary from person to person.

USING OUR PRODUCTS

How do I make Blue Lotus tea?

Steep 1-2 teaspoons (roughly 1.5-3g) of flowers in hot (not boiling) water for 5-10 minutes. Add honey or your favourite sweetener to taste. It can also be added to wine or another warm drink for a more ceremonial experience.

Can I smoke Blue Lotus?

Yes — our pre-ground blends and whole flowers can be rolled or used loose, or you can go for one of our handcrafted pre-rolls for convenience.

How do I use the elixirs/tinctures?

Take 1-3 droppers directly under the tongue, or add to a warm drink, wine, or water. We'd suggest starting with a smaller amount and adjusting from there to find what suits you.

What's the difference between the blends (DREAM, LOVE, BREATHE)?

Each blend pairs Blue Lotus with complementary herbs for a specific mood: DREAM (with chamomile, mullein, mugwort) for deep sleep and vivid dreaming; LOVE (with damiana, rose, mullein) for a warm, sensual, heart-opening experience; BREATHE (with mullein, peppermint) for clarity and open airways — lovely alongside breathwork or meditation.

SOURCING & QUALITY

Where does your Blue Lotus come from?

Both varieties are grown in Thailand. Our Asian Blue Lotus is cultivated under natural, pesticide-free growing principles. Our True Egyptian Blue Lotus comes from a separate, certified organic farm, ensuring you're getting the genuine, authentically sourced rarer variety.

Is your packaging eco-friendly?

Yes — we use home-compostable cornstarch bags, biodegradable pouches, recyclable aluminium tins, and Miron violet glass for our elixirs (which also helps preserve potency). The only exception is the small pipette on our elixir bottles, which contains a small amount of recyclable plastic — we're upfront about that being the one non-plastic-free element in our packaging.
